Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is funding in addition to main school funding based on:

·         children who receive free school meals (FSM) or who have received FSM during the last 6 years

·         children who are ‘looked after’

·         children of armed service personnel

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between eligible children and their wealthier peers by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.

The Pupil Premium is paid to schools as they are best placed to assess what additional provision their pupils need and they are free to spend it as they see fit.  However they are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding to support pupils from low-income families.  All schools must publish online information about how they have used the Premium.  This ensures that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium (http://www.education.gov.uk/)
